New at the Center

FDCAC Chairman Marc Henry Johnson is acting as Executive Director.  He has produced or executive produced films and television programs for Michael Moore, Spike Lee, Melvin Van Peebles, and Danny Glover. Marc's awards range from a Peabody to a Dramatic Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.  His films have been broadcast on Starz, PBS, The Learning Channel, Logo, Turner Broadcasting System, Channel 4 in the U.K., Trinidad Tobago Television, and the South African Broadcast Corporation.

FDCAC holds quarterly Open Houses where students can talk to instructors one on one and enjoy a Q & A with celebrated writers and actors.  Earlier this year Amiri Baraka and Melvin Van Peebles took center stage.  Wait until you hear our next special guest.

This is a new day for FDCAC.

Summer 2010 we offer the first in a series of on-line writing workshops.  Help us spread the word.

Later this year, we will begin our new Saturday Celebrity Seminars.  Join the conversation.

In 2011 we will roll out a Young Writers Summer Camp.  In the meantime, teens can enjoy two workshops this summer: Songwriting and Graphic Novel for Teens.

We also plan to expand our Young Writers Club in school districts throughout the city.  Dr. Theda Palmer Saxton launched the club this past spring at PS 175, the Henry Highland Garnet School for Success.

Finally, mark your calendars.  FDCAC is having a party at B. Smith's on Monday, July 12th.  Join us for good food and soulful conversation, dramatic readings and a proud walk down memory lane.  There will be a silent auction, raffle prizes, and much more.  Please help support the center that has been training writers and artists of color for nearly 40 years.
