ART FROM CUBA BY ARTISTS WHO LIVE IN CUBA l PRESENTED BY CUBARTE NEW YORK.

SANTIAGO OLAZABAL

born 1958, Havana
Cuban art began its more sincere contacts with the Afro-Cuban tradition when modern art arose on the island in the early part of the 20th Century. That's when Wifredo Lam emerged as the great visual representative of the African spirit and its culture. Santiago is part of that spirit today (next to artists lke Jose Bedia, Juan Francisco Elso, Ricardo Rodriguez Brey, and Francisco Sanchez). This major artist wants us to look at the earth, the sky and the people connected to and living in this universe. He has exhibited at the Museo de Las Bellas Artes, La Habana; at Art Miami and Art Basel, to name a few.
